Alternatives for plastic are coming up around the globe. Bioplastic is one of them. Bioplastics are biodegradable materials as they can decompose in a short period whereas plastic takes a few centuries or even a millennium! They are created out of renewable sources. Bioplastics can be used to reduce carbon and plastic footprint and promote sustainability and biodiversity. They can be an important part to reduce plastic waste and help the Earth. Countries around the world have started using bioplastics as an alternative to plastic. "Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and the UK are the major countries in the European bioplastics & biopolymers market," says finance.yahoo.com.
Precious Plastic is one of the many organizations around the world that are trying to reduce plastic waste in a creative way. They want to change our perspective about plastic waste and reduce it themselves. It was founded by Dave Hakkens who is a YouTuber. Precious Plastic has designed and created small machines that can shred, melt, and mold plastic into different shapes. They have posted the blueprints of the machines online so anyone, anywhere, and anytime can make the machines and do their part to help the environment. "Plastic Shed is one of the 400 hundred workshops that use Precious Plastic machines," says BBC News.
Hannah Testa is one of the many young environmentalist activists. "Since the age of four, Hannah has made it her mission to fight for the planet and its future," says hannah4change.org. When she was 10, she realized that plastic pollution is an issue that can be handled without too many struggles. Since then, Hannah has presented displays(presentations) to over 30,000 people around the globe on how to reduce their plastic waste. She has also written an educational book called "Taking on the plastics crisis". She is currently raising $20,000 to donate copies of her book to schools in marginalized communities.
Think outside the box and you will be able to think of many different things that can be created from plastic waste! From earrings to tiles of a house, many things in your daily life can be created out of plastic waste. It's not easy though. There's a process that can take hours, even days to complete! However, even though it is time-consuming, it has many benefits/pros for us humans and the environment so do your part to reduce plastic waste!
